This year’s show will have a many unique dances. The Desert Angels will present a variety of Middle Eastern dances to Arabic and Turkish music. The troupe will perform with shimmies, twists, and finger cymbals. One troupe number will be a zar dance, which is a dance that has deeper meanings and is danced to a spooky rhythm. There will also be a duet when the performers will dance with canes. The cane dance is traditionally from Upper Egypt, and it’s a lively dance. A tambourine choreography will also be performed to Amr Diab’s “Habibi Ya Nour el Ain,” which translates to “My Darling, You are the Glow in my Eyes.” You won’t want to miss this year’s show!

Riverssance is Saturday, October 3rd, and Sunday, October 4th. The festival begins at 10:00 am both days, but it closes at 8:00 pm on Saturday and 4:00 pm on Sunday. Until the end of September, adult tickets will be sold for only $6.00 at HyVee stores in Sioux City and South Sioux City. Otherwise, adult tickets are $9.00, ages 7-16 cost $3.00, and 6 and younger get in for free.
The Sisters of the Sahara is a belly dance troupe from Minnesota that performs at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival, which is every weekend until October 4th for the 2009 season. They perform a short skit with lots of great dancing. Their show is new this year, and instead of searching for a husband they’re looking for a new cabana boy! If you go, make sure you clap along to the music and cheer!
If you plan to go, here is a coupon for $3.00 off adult admission.
